The Wall Of Shamed is a participatory installation and online platform in which women are invited to share their experiences of being shamed. Civilizations are built on the foundation of accepting change and it is believed that women have the most important roles in the upbringing of the future generation playing different roles like the mother, sister, wife, teacher, and nurse thereby adorning many other roles in the day to day lives of anyone in the planet. Yet they still face all kinds of prejudice, harassment and abuse. Even though the change is visible in the recent times with women more involved in top companies and can reach top positions like Head of state, CEO etc. Here are some experiences where the women have shared their life when they were shamed and judged on several things and the stories are truly heartbreaking. It makes us wonder if people don’t have any sympathy or empathy left in this world.
Body shaming. Fat shaming. Slut shaming. Period shaming. Mother shaming. Food shaming. Gender shaming. Victim shaming. The list goes on! Experiences can also be shared physically on the wall, which is on display in Melbourne, Australia at the Victorian College of the Arts Masters Graduate Exhibition.
The Wall of shame adorned with instances where the woman shares their experiences of being shamed.
A woman should be a priority, not convenience. She deserves to be treated like a princess, not a servant.
The woman who shared her experiences, Susan Blake.
Life is a matter of choices and nobody should judge another on the basis of his/her choices.
Love her attitude, Respect her womanhood and make her comfortable rather than fat-shaming her.
Some puns hurt the heart. Be funny, but stay in the limit.
She is not a commodity, borrow her time not her body.
Mothers are irreplaceable, never forget that.
Slut shaming is never good, you will regret it once.
These kinds of people belong in Jail or Hell.
Society changes people; more often than not one loses her identity.
That’s offensive as hell! On one side you shame her and go and enjoy Nicki Minaj and celebrate the Kardashians.
Discrimination based on gender is still widely prevalent in our society.
Small things can hurt a lot! Body parts are not to be made fun of.
Be proud of your looks; never change just because someone tells you to.
Some say a person can be classified as well behaved or not just by the way he treats women, irrespective of the fact that they are a part of his life or not. A gentleman treats his women like a princess and all men should aspire to be a gentleman. Behind every successful man, there will be and must be a woman and keep it that way.
