We can easily call this decade as a decade of social media challenges and so will be acceptable to a wide range of people. Some of these were quite fun and challenging to attempt and challenge others, while there are some which are downright stupid and harmful to the person attempting it. These days people would do anything for popularity on social media, and these challenges give them the hike they desire.
Now, there is a new craze in the social media market, and people are calling it the “waist challenge.” Couples pose with males having a beverage with their arm around their women’s waist. This new challenge has garnered tens of thousands of shares and is growing.
Let’s take a look at this weird waist challenge that’s sweeping the social media.
This is what the challenge is.
Looks super weird, right?
About the challenge: A man should put his arm around the women’s waist and drink from a cup or mug or a glass from that side of the arm.
It requires women to have tiny waistline for the challenge to be feasible.
On the other hand, if the man can not drink from the glass he tries hard by changing the type of glass till the challenge is successful.
A woman with tiny waistline makes it easier.
How did this challenge start?
Nobody knows how the challenge started.
It’s still unclear as to how and when this challenge started. And just for every other trend on the internet, people are divided over this too. Some people think this to be a motivation for women to lose weight, while others think that it is derogatory towards other women. And, it sends a wrong message to the young people by promoting body shaming and health disorders.
One of the users commented, “Eyeroll. I hope any young girls watching these videos don’t feel low because some of us can’t do it.”
Another, with a strong opinion, wrote,
“Because women should really starve themselves for their “man” to be able to do something as useless as this. Sure. And women don’t have enough to worry about; now they have to be as thin as a 13-year-old girl?”
The waist challenge is reminiscent of another craze of same nature, called “A4 waist challenge,” which started in China.
The A4 waist challenge was received negatively by people.
This challenge involves women taking a photo of themselves while holding a sheet of A4 paper in front (or back) if their torso. As reported by BBC is 2016, the participants “win” if the paper entirely hides the waist.
