Ghosts, apparitions, supernatural phenomena freaks out many of us. The photos here tell some creepy and terrifying ghost stories which will surely give you nightmares.

1. The Cooper Family Ghost

The Cooper Family had just moved into an old home and were having a celebration. As they were clicking photos they didn’t realise a ghost was also present there. As is clearly seen in the picture a figure hanging upside down. Some refute this by saying that a body fell down exactly when this picture was taken. Creepy and downright terrifying.


2. The Amityville Ghost Boy

On November 13, 1974 Robert DeFao Jr. fatally shot his father and siblings although surprisingly there were no shot wounds on their bodies. Also, the neighbours didn’t hear any screams or shots. Robert claimed that ghosts in the house had made him kill his family. The terrifying story doesn’t end there. The house was then sold to Lutz family who knew of the house’s tragedy. Nevertheless, they moved in and after 28 days of creepy nightmares, paranormal activities like a suicidal dog, creepy ghost figures and green slime pouring from keyholes the family fled.


3. The Oak Grove Ghost, Kentucky

Also known as the Ghost Bridge there are several creepy stories surrounding this place which will give you nightmares. Only one is verified, the ghost of a woman and her child killed by her sailor husband who haunts the bridge.

4. Waverly Hills Sanitarium Ghost

The sanitarium was meant for patients with tuberculosis before the modern cure. Several unethical practices were underway here and only 5% of patients lived. Several ghosts haunt this place and one of nurse Mary Lee is famous. She was found hanging in room 502 after contracting the disease.

5. Brown Lady of Raynham Hall

Famously photographed in 1936 at Raynman Hall, Norfolk, England the ghost of Lady Dorothy Walpole who was married to Charles, 2nd Viscount, Townshend in 1713 appears in brown brocade. It is said that she was a mistress of Lord Wharton before her marriage and suspecting her of infidelity Charles grew angry. Legally she died in 1726 but rumors fly that the funeral was a ruse and Charles imprisoned her for her sins till her death. Her ghost is said to have black sockets instead of eyes. Enough to give you nightmares.

6. Ghost of Freddy Jackson

Freddy Jackson was a mechanic for the Royal Air Force on board H.M.S. Daedalus. He was killed accidentally as he accidentally strolled into a spinning propeller blade. Two days later his ghost appeared when his entire squadron was having their photo taken. Creepy isn’t it.

7. The SS Watertown Ghosts

In December 1924 Crewmen Seaman James Courtney and Michael Meehan were assigned to clean out a cargo tank of the oil tanker of SS Watertown as it sailed through the Pacific Ocean. Unfortunately, they died due to the gas fumes. Following day the first mate reported to have seen two faces in waves off the ship’s port side. The captain photographed these phantom faces and since then the creepy story of the ghosts has continued.

8. Chloe’s Ghost At Myrtle Plantation

Myrtle plantation is home to almost 12 ghosts. Most famous is Chloe who was a slave here. Her ghost is often seen wandering wearing a green turban. It is rumored that her ear was chopped off when she eavesdropped on her master. To take revenge she baked a poisonous birthday cake. Her plan backfired and her master’s wife and children were killed. Chloe was then supposedly hanged and thrown into Mississippi River. This will surely give you nightmares.

9. Hidden Cowboy

In 1996, Ike Clanton got his cowboy photo taken in Boothill graveyard, Tombstone. In this photo a strange figure of a cowboy appeared. Ike realised that it was impossible to take such a picture without showing the rear person’s legs and was convinced that it was a ghost.  

10. The Wedding Ghost

Wedding photographer Neil Sandbag was taking wedding pictures in Hertfordshire when he clicked this one. When he made inquiries he came to know that the staff had seen the ghost of a boy in night clothes roaming around and staring blankly. And we thought children aren’t terrifying.

11. Ghost of Mrs Chinnery

In 1959, Mable Chennery visited her mother’s grave with her husband. She was taking some photos when she clicked this one. Later she realized that the person in the backseat was none other than her deceased mother! Mother’s love sure is creepy here.

12. Healer Lady Of Worstead Church

Diane and Peter Berthelot visited the Worstead Church in 1975. Peter clicked the above photo and later when it was developed she found a figure sitting behind her. The ghost is seen wearing old fashioned clothes, so they decided to ask the church vicar who told them of the legend of White Lady. The ghost is supposed to be a healer who appears near those who are sick and need help. Diane, at that time was sick when the White Lady appeared.
